Young Investigators Awards

The Scientific Advisory Committee of the International Epilepsy Congress, Buenos Aries, nominates two outstanding young scientists to receive the Young Investigator Award.  These awards are made possible through an educational grant from GlaxoSmithKline.

Carla Marina from Australia, together with colleagues from the Epilepsy Research Institute of the University of Melbourne studied on large family and 15 smaller families with childhood absence epilepsy probands.  The results were compatible with digenic inheritance of idiopathic generalised epilepsy.

Affraim Salek-Haddadi et al, from the Institute of Neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, UK, reported on the initial imaging findings with a new technique for the simultaneous and continuous acquisition of function MRI data and EEC recording.  This new methodology makes it possible for the first time to exploit the full capabilities of EEG and fMRI simultaneously.
