Summary statement:
The Ecuadorian League Against Epilepsy (LECE) attempts to be active
in support of clinical management, research, and education in epilepsy.
In addition to the annual meeting held in conjunction with the Ecuadorian
Society of Neurology, the LECE is involved in regional courses which
are directed at neurologists, residents in training, and general
practitioners.
The LECE is now involved in a number of national studies regarding
prognosis of epilepsy and risk factors for epilepsy, as well as
neurocysticercosis and epilepsy. Another project developed over
recent years is the Epilepsy Database and Registry (SISEPIL) into
which patient data continue to be entered for clinical and research
purposes. This database is currently used as a basis for a similar
project in some epilepsy centers in Peru, Argentina and Brazil.
We are also supporting the activities of Self-Aid Groups and encouraging
the formation of new ones over all the country.
