Epileptic Disorders^™ Educational Prize 2020

Dr Zhong Ying was awarded the Epileptic Disorders Educational Prize for her paper, A comprehensive clinico-pathological and genetic evaluation of bottom-of-sulcus focal cortical dysplasia in patients with difficult-to-localize focal epilepsy, by Zhong Ying, Irene Wang, Ingmar Blümcke, Juan Bulacio, Andreas Alexopoulos, Lara Jehi, William Bingaman, Jorge Gonzalez-Martinez, Katja Kobow, Lisa Marie Niestroj, Dennis Lal, Konrad Koelble, Imad Najm. Dr. Ying was born in Beijing, China and graduated from Capital Medical University in Beijing China. Then she pursued training in intraoperative neuro-monitoring in the Department of Neurosurgery, Inselspital, Bern University Hospital in Switzerland and obtained Doctor of Medicine degree. Furthermore, Dr. Ying moved to USA and obtained her Ph.D in the field of neuroscience, and completed her neurology residency training.

After completing clinical epilepsy fellowship training at Epilepsy Center, Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Ying has joined the center and she works as an epileptologist. Dr. Ying’s clinical interests are medical and surgical treatment of intractable epilepsy, and her longstanding research is in the field of epileptogenesis of type II focal cortical dysplasia.

This year for the first time, the ILAE Journal Prizes were presented in a virtual symposium. All five prize winners presented their papers, with the opportunity for questions, and Michael Sperling, editor-in-chief of Epilepsia, spoke on what makes a good paper.
