Eilat 6 Edu

6th Eilat International Educational Course on the Pharmacological Treatment of Epilepsy (6thEilat Edu)
Jerusalem, Israel (12-16 October 2015)
The Eilat International Educational Course on The Pharmacological Treatment of Epilepsy (EilatEdu) has a unique focus on basic and clinical pharmacology of epilepsy.  It thus specializes in the unmet niche of pharmacology not covered by other international courses and conferences.  Since 2005 it has managed to build a group of eminent epileptologistsas teachers who are available throughout the course to answer the students' (young neurologists) questions.  Although the Eilat Course is one of the three core courses of the CEA, it is also open to students throughout the world who compete equally with European students for bursaries.

San Servolo Summer Course

International advanced course on: Seizures and Epilepsies in Childhood: management, co-morbidities, and adaptation of guidelines -
19-31 July 2015, ISNV, Venice International University, San Servolo, Venice, Italy

Course directors: Jo Wilmshurst (South Africa) and Marilena Vecchi (Italy)
Aim of the advanced course is to teach attendees to: (1) recognise the co-morbidities commonly associated with epilepsy, specifically focusing on the behavioural and psychiatric complications (2) understand how international recommendations for the management of neonates and infants with seizures can be adapted at a local level (3) identify the role of advocacy in the care children with epilepsy. (4) address how the reorganisation of the categorisation of epilepsy aids research and affects practice (5) review the effects of antiepileptic drugs on behaviour and cognitive function (6) understand the pathogenesis of status epilepticus in children (7) review the role for epilepsy surgery in children.
Physicians who are pursuing their training or have recently specialized in pediatric neurology, pediatrics, epileptology or clinical neurophysiology, and PhDs or PhD students are welcome to apply.
A maximum of 60 applicants will be selected on the basis of their CVs and consideration will be given to ensure participation of trainees from different geographical origins and disciplines.

BSSE

9th Baltic Sea Summer School on Epilepsy (BSSSE 9)
The annual Baltic Sea Summer School on Epilepsy (BSSSE) is clinically oriented and focused on comprehensive aspects of diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and provides a platform for transnational research. The open and informal atmosphere of the BSSSE allows easy communication between faculty and up to 40 international students.

Tagliacozzo

2nd International Residential Course on Drug Resistant Epilepsies in Tagliacozzo
3-9 May, 2015, Tagliacozzo, Italy

This is the second edition of the International Course organized by the Department of Neuroscience, Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital. IRCCS, Rome, Italy
The course is based on two main educational study methods: we will have lectures from experts epileptologists and working groups with tutors. Main output of this course will be widening the knowledge of drug resistant epilepsies all over and build a network of young people coming from around the world that might work together in the future.
The course will have a 6 - day duration and will take place between the 3rd and the 9th of May 2015 in Tagliacozzo a village in the center of Italy, not far from Rome.
Main topics will cover: semiologic characteristics of different types of epileptic seizures, utilization of Video-EEG, notions of antiepileptic drug pharmacodynamics and kinetics, alternative treatments, role of epilepsy surgery, especially of the resective type, and of Vagal Nerve Stimulation and Deep Brain Stimulation, focus on emerging genetic aspects of drug resistant epilepsies.

Visiting Professorships

Stefano Francione will visit Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra, Portugal. The main objective of this exchange program would be to accomplish these two steps: (1) Pre-surgical evaluation of the patients; (2) Defining surgical procedure

Walter van Emde Boas and Thea Gutter will visit the Pediatric Neurology Clinic, Alexandru Obregia Hospital, Bucharest, Romania. They will train physicians and nurses dealing with EEG and patients with epilepsy, in order to establish a functional epilepsy surgery team.
