Commissions
Scientific Commission on Epilepsy Research
In 1999 the most important task of this Commission was to initiate
and coordinate the work on the document „Epilepsy Report Switzerland
2000". This report will summarize the current status of epilepsy
care in Switzerland, define gaps, and contain proposals how to overcome
the identified weaknesses. In addition, the Commission prepared
the program for the Annual Meeting of the SLgE which will take place
in Tschugg in the 4th quarter of 2000.
Publications
„Informationsschrift Epilepsie": Topics related to epilepsy
are published twice per annum. For League members like neurologists,
neurosurgeons, pediatricians, psychologists, practitioners, teachers,
nurses.
„Kontakte": Topics related to every day life and self-help
published twice per annum. For patients and their families.
Information material
Published in German, French and Italian. Leaflets for patients,
seizure diary, sos-card, booklist.
Meetings
First joint meeting of the Austrian, German and Swiss chapters
of the ILAE in Vienna. Various members of the Board of the SLgE
chaired sessions or gave plenary lectures. The contributions of
Prof. P.-A. Despland („Ueber den Verlauf von Epilepsien").
Dr. G. Kraemer („Therapeutische Strategien inklusive der neuen Antieepileptika")
and Dr. M. Schmutz („Experimentelle Ansaetze") were published
in Med-Report 7, 1999 (Blackwell Wissenschaft, Berlin).
Annual meeting of the SLgE in Zürich. Subject: Side effects of
antiepileptic drugs. Patients and neurologists were informed about
neurological side effects, allergies, hair loss and other dermatological
side effects, neuropsychological side effects, side effects disturbing
vision or sexuality, alterations of laboratory values.
Summary statement
The SLgE is active concerning both scientific and social aspects
of epilepsy. We have intensified our efforts to inform the public
about the disease epilepsy and its consequences for patients and
their families.
