ILAE COVID-19 and Epilepsy Research Award 2020 Asia-Oceania
Lu Lu
Lu Lu was selected for her paper, New onset acute symptomatic seizure and risk factors in coronovirus disease 2019: A retrospective multicenter study. Lu Lu et al. Epilepsia. 2020; 61: e49-e53. DOI:10.1111/epi.16524
Lu Lu is a junior trainee from West China. Their team performed a study concerning whether COVID-19 infection would cause acute systematic seizure. The team had consecutively enrolled 309 confirmed cases in multiple Chinese centers located in 3 jurisdictions: Hubei (Wuhan the epicenter), Sichuan and Chongqing, to clarify the seizure-related incidence and the risk of symptomatic seizure during the course of covid-19. No patient in the cohort had a previous history of epilepsy, and no seizure or status epilepticus was observed during the acute course. This article has generated much interest among physicians and researchers.
