Changes in Epilepsia access and pricing

The Editors-in-chief of Epilepsia, the ILAE Executive Committee, and Epilepsia's publisher, Wiley have approved changes in subscription access and pricing. For many years, all content older than one year has been freely available in the Wiley Online Library though Wiley was not obligated to make it freely available. Effective immediately, this policy will change so that content older than four years will be freely available. Articles of high importance to our community (e.g. definitions, classifications, guidelines, selected ILAE reports) as well as articles for which authors have paid open access fees will continue to be freely accessible without restriction as soon as they are published. This change was necessary because having a very large fraction of the Epilepsia content freely available created a risk that libraries would cancel their subscriptions, making Epilepsia less available to some and reducing the income derived by ILAE from subscriptions to Epilepsia.

To help alleviate the burden of this change, ILAE and Wiley decided that free e-only subscriptions to Epilepsia will now be available to ILAE Chapters members from countries belonging to the Upper Middle Income group if they have a per capita GDP lower than $8,000. This currently represents 36 countries, in addition to countries in the Lower Income and Lower Middle Income groups. Subscribe here to receive these free subscriptions.

Please note that if you currently access Epilepsia content via your institution, through a member subscription, or through the Hinari system, these changes will not affect you and your access to all content will continue.
