5th International Summer School of Neuropsychology

Château de Bellinglise in Picardy, France

19 - 24 April 2026

The roles of neuropsychological assessments and interventions in the treatment of people with epilepsy are constantly evolving in response to advances in our understanding of epilepsy as a network disorder of the brain. Neuropsychological difficulties in epilepsy are the product of several biopsychosocial factors with complex interactions. Understanding the role of these factors and ways in which their impact on neuropsychological function can be ameliorated is an integral part of the role of the neuropsychologist working with this group.

The 5th International Summer School of Neuropsychology is designed for experienced neuropsychologists and other epilepsy specialists to advance their knowledge of neuropsychological approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of people with epilepsy. Participants will take part in lectures, case presentations, and discussions designed to illustrate contemporary principles of differential diagnosis and case formulation in neuropsychological practice in people with epilepsy and those undergoing epilepsy surgery. Participants will also have the opportunity to present their own cases for discussion and review.

Draft Program

The course is organized into three main parts. Each morning participants learn the latest advances in epileptology from our neurology and neurosurgical colleagues; These lectures cover neurophysiology, neuroimaging, neurosurgery, and anti-seizure medications for neuropsychologists. After the morning break, practice-oriented lectures covering the latest research and its clinical applications are presented by the international faculty. Following lunch we break-out into smaller working groups tutored by our expert faculty to discuss case presentations presented by the students and the faculty.

ILAE Curriculum Learning Objectives

  1. Advanced neuropsychological assessment and formulation in complex epilepsy and surgical settings
  2. Research Appraisal: On completing the course, participants will have a comprehensive grasp of the methodological challenges and shortcomings in the epilepsy literature and the ways in which these impact the evidence base.
  3. Development and strengthening of international clinical and research networks.
  4. Understanding of the wide range of critical roles neuropsychologists play in epilepsy services and the ways in which these can be integrated in a multidisciplinary approach.
