6th ILAE School on Advanced EEG and Epilepsy in Dianalund

Danish Epilepsy Centre in Dianalund, Denmark

20 - 27 July 2024

The 6th ILAE School on Advanced EEG and Epilepsy in Dianalund (DSSEE6) is practically-oriented, with many hands-on sessions, and it is highly interactive. It is not for beginners: applicants must have at least 6 months training and experience with clinical EEG.

The main idea of the course is to bridge the gap between epileptologists and neurophysiologists. Therefore, topics both in the realm of signal analysis and topics related to seizure semiology and clinical significance of EEG findings will be covered.

The theoretical presentations (in the morning) will be supplemented by EEG-reading sessions, where the participants will be guided through video-EEG samples by the tutors. The last day of the course will be dedicated to discussion of difficult cases brought by the participants.

Main Topics

  • Cellular origin of the EEG signals
  • Digital EEG: technical aspects
  • Equivalent current dipoles
  • Montages and voltage maps
  • Source localisation
  • Background activity: qualitative and quantitative assessment
  • Interictal epileptiform discharges: spike-generation and propagation
  • Reporting the findings
  • Normal variants
  • Seizure semiology and classification
  • Long term video EEG monitoring
  • Polygraphic recordings
  • Ictal EEG activity
  • Intracranial recordings
  • EEG in status epilepticus
  • EEG in critically ill patients
  • High Density EEG
  • Differential diagnosis: sleep disorders
  • Specific aspects of EEG in neonates and infants
  • Thalamocortical dysrhythmias
  • Effect of medication on the EEG

The course is limited to a maximum of 26 participants. The applicants are expected to have a solid theoretical and practical knowledge of EEG (at least 6 months training in EEG). Alumni of VIREPA-EEG courses will have priority.

The course will be held at the Danish Epilepsy Centre, in Dianalund, Denmark.
