Third International Workshop on High Frequency Oscillations in Epilepsy

NYU Langone Health in New York, NY, USA

23 - 25 May 2024

High frequency oscillations (HFOs) were discovered about 20 years ago and since then they have been intensively studied in the context of epilepsy. The third version of the HFO workshop aims to address the latest advancements since the last versions of the workshop (1st in Montreal 2012, 2nd in Freiburg 2016) which were instrumental in shaping future directions and collaborations. Specifically, the upcoming workshop will cover the basic mechanisms of HFOs, their clinical utility as well as latest advancements in recording, detecting, and analyzing HFOs. Three hands-on teaching courses will train attendees on how to record, detect, and analyze HFOs using human and rodent EEGs. Latest and unpublished cutting-edge research will be presented to promote the exchange of novel ideas and scientific progress. The meeting is also designed to involve interactive discussion including poster sessions. The environment is also geared toward trainees to promote the next generation in the HFO epilepsy arena.

Attendees can expect to:

  • Discuss new advancements in the role of high frequency oscillations in epilepsy
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of recording, detecting, and interpreting HFOs
  • Demonstrate how HFOs compare to other biomarkers such as interictal spikes and seizures
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the mechanisms underlying normal and pathological HFOs as well as their interplay
  • Understand the role of HFOs in ictogenesis and epileptogenesis
  • Discuss current knowledge and future directions about the use of HFOs in clinical trials

This course is being offered in-person only.

The event is sponsored by NYU Langone’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures.
