Fides Uiso
Fides Uiso, a mother of a child with severe epilepsy, is a passionate advocate for people with epilepsy in Tanzania.
She founded the Tanzania Epilepsy Organization to combat stigma and discrimination, promoting legal reform and challenging laws like Section 39(a)(ii) of the Law of Marriage Act, which allows annulment of marriages due to epilepsy.
Fides develops training manuals on seizure action plans for educators, healthcare professionals, and communities, fostering inclusive environments. Through her "I AM A STAR" program, she mentors youth with epilepsy and empowers mothers through her social enterprise, safe Safi social enterprise.
Fides also founded the Mothers On A Mission Forum (MOM FORUM) to support mothers of children with developmental disabilities.
Her work has earned her prestigious awards, including the Rehabilitation International Centennial Award and the Golden Light Award. She is an alumni of professional fellows program on inclusive civic engagement funded by the U.S Department of State.
