Jose M Serratosa Fernandez

José M Serratosa MD, PhD, is Director of the Epilepsy Unit at the Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital and Professor at the School of Medicine of the Autónoma University of Madrid. After his neurology residence, he specialized in epilepsy at the California Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at UCLA. He has been chief of the Department of Neurology at his institution from 2008 to 2021. His main research interests include the clinical and molecular genetics of the epilepsies (specially the epileptic encephalopathies, the idiopathic generalized epilepsies, and the progressive myoclonus epilepsies, mainly Lafora disease), the study of mouse models of Lafora disease, and more recently the development of new therapies for the genetic epilepsies, mainly Lafora disease. He has published more than 100 papers and book chapters in the field of epilepsy, mainly on the genetics of the epilepsies. He has participated in numerous ILAE activities (Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Madrid ECE 2002, Associate Editor of Epilepsia, member of the Genetics Commission, among other). He co-founded the Spanish Epilepsy Society, now Spanish chapter of the ILAE.
