Ambassador for Epilepsy Award 1999

Philip A. Schwartzkroin (USA) has made numerous contributions to literature concerning mechanisms of epilepsy in the developing and adult hyppocampus. He has committed his career to understanding the basic mechanisms of epilepsy that might be relevant to the clinical condition. He has allied himself to epilepsy programmes and has encouraged other basic scientists to do likewise. He has championed this cause internationally and has had a tremendous effect through his publications, the organisation of conferences and his participation in the ILAE commission on Neurobiology of Epilepsy. He has served on the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Sydney Congress and is currently the chairman of the Commission on Neurobiology.
