Muzharul A Mannan

Dr M Mannan was born in 1970 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He Studied at University Laboratory School and College, Dhaka and passed SSC and HSC from there. He went to Hungary with a government scholarship to study Medicine at Semmelweis Medical University, Budapest.

After graduation and an internship at Semmelweis Medical University, he returned to Bangladesh in 1998 and started his postgraduate training in Bangladesh. He received training in Internal Medicine and Neurology and also worked as a Neurologist for 5 years before got a fellowship to work with Epilepsy as an HSDP Fellow at the National Neuroscience Institute, Singapore from 2003-2004.

Dr Mannan completed his Diploma in Clinical Neurology at the National Institute of Neurology, Queens Square, London, UK, in 2005. He worked as the Head of Medical Division and Consultant Neurologist at Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP), Dhaka Bangladesh from 2006-2009.

He Joined Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at Dhaka, Bangladesh as Consultant Neurologist at Department of Neurology and as Training Coordinator at Centre for Neurodevelopment and Autism in Children (CNAC) in 2009, which later became the Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA), BSMMU in 2015. He is also working as Senior Consultant and Managing Director of Neurology Foundation Hospital since 1999.

At present he is the Secretary General of Bangladesh Epilepsy Foundation, Epilepsy Association of Bangladesh and the South East Asian Commission for Epilepsy of The International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE).

Under the activities of the local chapter of ILAE and IBE he runs the biggest free Friday clinic in Bangladesh for patients with epilepsy since 1999 where more than 12,000 patients have been served regularly and their data stored for various research purposes.

He is also involved with different epilepsy related training for field level health workers to ensure country wide epilepsy treatment and management. He is also the joint secretary (international affairs) of the executive board of the Society of Neurologist of Bangladesh.

He is a founding Board of Trustees member of Shuchona Foundation, a not-for-profit advocacy, research and capacity-building organization specializing in neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and mental health. Established in 2014, it aims to provide a new beginning for people who suffer because their disabilities prevent them from inclusion in the country's economic development.

Dr. Mannan has great Professional experience of 20 years and teaching experience of 15 years. He has a good experience in clinical, research, academics and teaching. Got many national and international fellowships, awards and honours for his outstanding work in the field of Neurology.

His contribution in the field of Epilepsy is well known nationally and internationally.
