Kieran Normoyle
Dr. Kieran Normoyle is a research fellow at the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Center in the Department of Neurology at MGH, lead by Dr. Kevin Staley. Kieran has been leveraging his background in cytoskeletal dynamics and synthetic chemistry to better understand the process of epileptogenesis with the goal of prevention of secondary epilepsies and identification of new treatment strategies to reach the persistently refractory patient population. Designing, synthesizing, and utilizing new tools and analytical techniques for use in two-photon systems, Kieran measures chloride on either side of the neuronal membrane in mouse and pig models to elucidate the structural influences of traumatic and ischemic injuries that result in the process of epileptogenesis.
