The award is in honor of Dr. Tadokoro, a retired epileptologist from Japan who contributed generously to the activities of the ILAE-Asian and Oceania.
The prizes are US $250 each with a certificate.
Historical Note:
Epilepsy networking in Asia and Oceania is contributed by many in Japan as well as in Asia. Dr Y. Tadokoro is a retired epileptologist from Japan who contributed 1 million yen yearly to support the budget of Commission for Asian and Oceanian Affairs during the early years of the Commission from 1998 to 2000. The prize was initiated during the 4th AOEC in Bangkok in 2004 to encourage epilepsy research in the region. It was named after Dr. Tadokoro to recognize his selfless sacrifice and cross-cultural concern as models for all in Asia. The prize money was contributed by Dr M. Seino from the 1 million yen Lifetime Achievement Award he received from the Epilepsy Research Foundation of Japan, with another contribution by Dr. Y. Mayanagi.
