Ivan Rektor

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Ivan Rektor on June 14, 2026. He was one of the most distinguished figures in both Czech and global epileptology.

Professor Rektor was a founding father of modern Czech epileptology and epilepsy surgery. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Brno Epilepsy Center and developing its epilepsy surgery program, which achieved international acclaim under his vision and leadership.

Serving as the President of the Czech League Against Epilepsy from 2003 to 2007, a recipient of the prestigious Ambassador for Epilepsy award, and the founder of the EPODES international epilepsy surgery courses, Professor Rektor profoundly influenced the field far beyond the borders of the Czech Republic.

Through his extraordinary scientific, academic, and personal integrity, he inspired multiple generations of neurologists and epileptologists. The international epilepsy community has lost an exceptional physician, researcher, mentor, and colleague, whose legacy will endure in our work and our memories.
