Metella Paterlini

1963 - 2019

Metella Paterlini (November 30th, 1963 - August 29th, 2019) was the heart and soul of the San Servolo Epilepsy Summer Courses. She contributed to the development of the Epilepsy School from the very beginning, as a side job to her main profession as translator (she was awarded the International Translator Aurora Borealis Prize in 2014). Owing to her outstanding organizational skills and her magic ability to emphatically tune in with people from across the globe, Metella was much treasured by students and faculty members alike. During the Courses she always smiled, was helpful and positive, and was equally kind to the most eminent lecturer and the youngest student. San Servolo Epilepsy Courses were her own success. In spite of her precarious health conditions, she attended the 2019 Course in July, and her courage and commitment were a lesson in life for us all.

Metella will be remembered by the San Servolo community for her gentle approach to life and people.
