Speaker Biographies

Dr Manali Chitre, MBBS, DCH, MRCP (Paediatrics), FRCPCH, Mst Med Ed
D Chitre works as a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridge, UK. They run an outreach-based service that covers all hospitals in the East of England. She leads the highly specialised Cambridge Paediatric Neuroimmunology service and is the regional lead for Foetal and Neonatal neurology. Her other interests include childhood epilepsies, neurovascular conditions and movement disorders.

Dr Chitre did her initial medical studies in Goa, India before moving to the UK. She had a paediatric neurology fellowship at BC Children’s In Vancouver, Canada.

She is passionate about teaching and training. She has completed a masters in medical education (Cambridge university). She has recently been appointed chair of BPNA's Education Quality and Standards committee. She is a quality advisor on the Paediatric Neurology CSAC and lead for SPIN epilepsy. She regularly teaches on BPNA-run PET and NeoNATE courses and has been involved in a variety of educational projects. As well, Dr Chitre is the co-chair of Sir Richard Stapley Educational Trust which is a charity providing educational grants for postgraduate studies in the UK.

Dr Maha Awadalla, FRCPCH, MD/PhD - 1553 ILAE British chapter
Dr Maha Awadalla is a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist and Epilepsy Specialist currently practicing at the Royal London Hospital (Barts Health). With a wealth of expertise in treating children with a wide range of neurological conditions, Dr Awadalla’s primary focus lies in the management of epilepsies and epileptic encephalopathies.  Dr Awadalla completed her medical degree at Ain Shams University, Egypt in 1994. After completing three years of basic training in paediatrics and earning a Masters degree in Paediatrics from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, she relocated to Glasgow, Scotland. There, she underwent further training in paediatrics, neonatology, and neurology for an additional three years.

In 2003, Dr Awadalla was awarded her Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. Dr Awadalla returned to Egypt to complete her PhD degree in Paediatrics. She then embarked on her higher training in paediatric neurology from 2004 to 2009, during which she served as a clinical lecturer and engaged in research activities. In 2008, she received her Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. In 2010, Dr Awadalla became an Associate Professor of Paediatrics and Paediatric Neurology at Ain Shams University Egypt, alongside her consultant position. Dr Awadalla worked as consultant paediatric neurologist in middle east (Saudia Arabia between 2010-2013) before relocating to UK in 2013 where she has been working as consultant Paediatric Neurologist at the Royal London Hospital for last 11 years. Dr Awadalla has multiple publications in field of neurology and epilepsy and is a member of the BPNA and ILAE British chapter.
