Cannabinoids in the Treatment of Epilepsy

Dear Participants,
The use of cannabinoids in the treatment of epilepsy has become a hot and controversial topic during recent
years. Whereas use of cannabinoids has been reported on casuistic basis for centuries, new clinical trials suggest their efficacy in severe epilepsy syndromes refractory to standard antiepileptic drugs. We are glad that renowned speakers will summarize the present state of art of understanding of the endocannabinoid system, effects of cannabinoids, and clinical experiences. This will be complemented by a discussion of cannabinoid use in Germany, including legal and practical aspects.

Sehr geehrte Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer, der Einsatz von Cannabinoiden in der Epileptologie hat sich in letzter Zeit zu einem kontrovers diskutierten Thema entwickelt. Nachdem schon seit Jahrhunderten Einzelfallberichte eine antiepileptische Wirkung nahelegten, zeigten neue klinische Studien eine Wirksamkeit auch bei therapierefraktären schweren Epilepsieformen. Wir freuen uns, hier von renommierten Experten eine
Übersicht über die Kenntnisse des Endocannabinoid-Systems, der Effekte von Cannabinoiden und über klinische Erfahrungen zu erhalten. Dies wird ergänzt durch eine Diskussion des Einsatzes in Deutschland, einschließlich legaler und praktischer Aspekte. Gerne können auch Sie hierzu Fallberichte vorschlagen.
