Defining the Landscape of Late-Onset Unexplained Epilepsy

Migis Lodge at Sebago Lake in South Casco, Maine, USA

15 - 17 October 2025

This conference will bring together a diverse group of physicians and scientists to discuss critical questions about late-onset unexplained epilepsy (LoUE), focusing on new research approaches and recent scientific advances to address these challenges. We will bring together leading experts in the fields of epilepsy, stroke, vascular disease, and neurodegeneration to foster multidisciplinary collaboration and shared knowledge. Conference topics will range from animal studies to longitudinal clinical and epidemiologic studies.

We will discuss disease mechanisms and candidate biomarkers from dementia and stroke research that could be leveraged to improve diagnosis, prognosis, disease monitoring, and therapeutic development in LoUE. By leveraging existing studies and novel approaches, the conference aims to advance mechanistic understanding of LoUE and its links to dementia and stroke. The conference will establish priorities for future research on LoUE, including developing shared data repositories, standardizing research protocols, and creating platforms for ongoing collaboration.

Last, this conference will provide networking and mentoring opportunities for trainees and junior investigators, fostering the next generation of LoUE researchers. Overall, this conference will integrate diverse expertise, leverage shared resources, and facilitate cross-disciplinary collaborations to accelerate progress in LoUE research.
