Epilepsy in the Elderly: At the Crossroads of Brain Aging, Neurodegeneration, and Functional Networks
Marrakech, Morocco
28 - 29 November 2025
ILAE Curriculum Learning Objectives addressed by this course
The global demographic shift toward an aging population is particularly significant in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR), where the incidence of late-onset epilepsy is steadily rising. Elderly individuals often present with atypical seizure manifestations, comorbid neurodegenerative conditions (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body dementia), and complex pharmacologic profiles, making diagnosis and treatment more challenging. Despite these realities, epilepsy in the elderly remains underrepresented in continuing medical education programs.
This EMR Masterclass is designed to meet this urgent educational need by bringing together regional experts to deliver a high-level, interactive training on electroclinical advances, differential diagnosis, and patient-tailored therapeutic strategies. The course will integrate neurology, geriatrics, neurophysiology, and functional brain imaging, offering participants a multidisciplinary and clinically grounded approach.
