Help Improve Your Patients' Quality of Life with Evidence-Based Seizure Self-Management Programs

For many people with epilepsy (PWE), self-care and maintenance of a consistent routine are part of a strategy to help minimize the risk of seizures. Clinicians can play a critical role in supporting self-management by deepening their understanding of the social determinants of health and referring patients and caregivers to evidence-based programs and resources that build skills for managing daily life with epilepsy.

Evidence-based epilepsy self-management programs encourage a partnership among the patient, friends and family in the patient's support system, and healthcare providers to optimize treatment, seizure management, and day-to-day life.

The American Epilepsy Society (AES), in partnership with Dartmouth Health, a coordinating center for the Managing Epilepsy Well Network, is hosting two full-day epilepsy self-management trainings:

PACES in Epilepsy: Program of Active Consumer Engagement in Self-Management
A free, in-person training for community health workers, counselors, health educators, and members of clinical care teams.

HOBSCOTCH: Home Based Self-Management and Cognitive Training Changes Lives
A free, in-person training for all members of the care team including physicians, social workers, behavioral health providers, and others.
