Founded on August 30, 1909 in Budapest, the International League Against Epilepsy is the earliest neurological society still in existence. From humble beginnings it now approaches its centenary boasting over 16,000 members in nearly 100 countries. These committed individuals continue assiduously to pursue the League's objective: to improve the care, treatment and social standing of people with epilepsy.

To mark the centenary in 2009, the League has produced this presentation volume of its history. Diligently researched, this book uses personal testimonials, published reports, the ILAE archives and research developments to provide a unique and detailed social and scientific history. The volume includes the history of: the ILAE; the journal, Epilepsia; epilepsy; and epilepsy treatment. Much of the material has come from private sources and archives and has never before been published.
