Summary of Activities:

The Salvadoran chapter of the international league against epilepsy (CASALICE), begins a new stage since the election of its new authorities in May 2017; since then, a series of academic awareness and education activities in epilepsy have been carried out, these activities have been directed to medical personnel (general and specialists), medical students and paramedics with the aim of contributing and updating the knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, sometimes managing to attract audiences of more than 200 people, which has been carried out in different hospitals in the capital city and some in the interior of the country.

In May, the first meeting of the chapter with the national epilepsy commission of the health ministry of El Salvador was held for the first time in the history of our country.In this meeting a verbal collaboration agreement was established with this entity to be able to advise and accompany the government in the efforts that are carried out in order to improve the quality of life of our population with epilepsy. We hope that this agreement will be formalized soon enough.In addition, the creation of a group of patients and relatives of patients with epilepsy who meet monthly, in order to take epilepsy out of the shadows, educating and raising awareness among individuals about this disease. With the same purpose, the social networking pages of patients with epilepsy and the Salvadoran chapter against epilepsy were recently created, which will help us in disseminating our activities.

As a chapter we know that the challenge is great and we have a lot to do, but we have only just begun and we have the desire to continue.

Challenges:

1- To Grow the Membership and our economic resources.
2- Finalize the procedures of legal representation in the public ministry of our country.
3- Establish ourselves as the highest academic authority in regard to epilepsy in our country.
4- To Have a permanent presence and impact in the different medical and academic circles of the country.
5- Become an advisory entity of health and advocacy policies in epilepsy in El Salvador, which improve the quality of life of our patients.
