1. 3rd Epilepsy Teaching Course
The 3rd Epilepsy teaching course was recently held at the Sarawak General Hospital, Kuching from 8th to 9th September 2018. This event was organised by the Epilepsy Council of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences (MSN) and ANZAN and was supported by the Global Campaign Task Force of the Commission on Asian and Oceanian Affairs (CAOA) for the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE). The course format was adapted from the ASEPA Summer School course and we were honoured to have Professor Ernest Somerville and Prof John Dunne from Australia as guest speaker and lead facilitators during the 2 days. Topics covered included differential diagnosis of epilepsy, classification of seizures and epilepsy, management of epilepsy in general and in special situations, as well as cultural aspects of epilepsy. A total of 90 participants, the majority of whom were from East Malaysia, attended this 2 day course. East Malaysia has the highest treatment gap in the country. The participants thoroughly enjoyed the course, citing in particular, the interactive sessions and discussion with the speakers and facilitators as well as relevance of the topics discussed as strengths of the course. Overall, the course was a success.
