David C Henshall

David Henshall is a pharmacologist and professor of molecular physiology and neuroscience at the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dublin, Ireland. David’s research interests are the causes and treatment of acquired epilepsies, including the role of noncoding RNAs such as microRNAs and the development of better preclinical models. He established the first experimental epilepsy lab in Ireland and has since trained over 50 PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Since 2017, David has been director of FutureNeuro, Ireland’s national research centre for translational brain science. He was elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2024. David is the current Chair of the ILAE Neurobiology Commission and co-chaired the workshop on neurobiology of epilepsy in 2023 and 2025 (WONOEP XVII and XVIII). He is also a member of the ILAE’s Climate Change Commission where he co-leads a Task Force on engagement and sustainable practice.
