SUDEP conversations can be difficult to initiate, however studies show that patients and families do want to know about the risks. A common reason that clinicians do not discuss SUDEP risk is out of concern for provoking distress, anxiety and fear. In this webinar we discuss the importance of talking about SUDEP, and present practical suggestions on how to discuss the issue. Providing the facts in an honest and open way can strengthen partnerships with patients and family caregivers.
Objectives:
1. Explain common barriers to having the SUDEP conversation.
2. Discuss when and how to initiate a sensitive conversation
3. Highlight what we can learn from family/patient experiences.
