Nursing research is critical to enhancing clinical practice and promoting professional development. Using an evidence-based approach to address clinical questions incorporates relevant scientific advancements into daily practice in order to improve outcomes. Evidence-based practice enhances the ability to more effectively guide self-management and health related decision-making. It is important for nursing care to keep pace with technological advances and to be responsive to new knowledge. Incorporating research into practice solidifies the unique role nurses play in the healthcare eco-system in support of health for all.
Objectives
- Explain the place of evidence-based research in the spectrum of nursing research methodology.
- Outline the process of evidence-based research and how to begin to think about a clinical question.
- Provide a practical example of a project in which the research process applies.
