XVII Workshop on Neurobiology of Epilepsy (WONOEP 2023)

The extracellular space in epilepsy: pathomechanisms, biomarkers and treatment targets

Kildare, Ireland

28 August - 1 September 2023

Abstracts

Attendance at WONOEP is based on your abstract for the workshop being accepted for oral presentation. Please do not submit an abstract unless you are able to travel to Ireland for participation in person at WONOEP on 28 to 31 August 2023.

All abstracts submitted should relate to The extracellular space in epilepsy: pathomechanisms, biomarkers and treatment targets. This will include novel insights into the structure and function of the extracellular space, e.g. the role of the extracellular matrix, extra-synaptic signaling, including auto- and paracrine signaling by molecules and vesicles; mechanisms driving incursion of non-CNS cell types into the parenchyma; interaction of the immune system and triggering of autoimmunity; the components of the blood-brain-barrier and how breaches and repair influence mechanisms of hyperexcitability; the gut-brain axis; new technologies to image and track these processes; innovative small molecule, gene therapy and cell-based approaches that offer new opportunities to target the extracellular space and treat the epilepsies. Both preclinical and clinical studies will be considered.

Please note that you will be required to fill out your contact details first on the form before uploading your abstract. Please ensure that your abstract complies with the following rules:

  • Abstracts should be uploaded in a Word file.
  • Abstracts should have a maximum word count of 300 words (not including the abstract title, authors and institutions).
  • Your layout of the abstract should start with the title of the abstract, followed by authors (first name and surname only for each author), followed by affiliations (name of institution and country) and then the abstract text itself.
  • Keywords, figures, tables and other illustrations should not be included.
  • Submission of an abstract automatically implies acknowledgment that the work described was conducted in accordance with current ethical standards and regulations in biomedical research.
  • You may submit one abstract only.

The abstract submission deadline was Tuesday, 7 March 2023. Authors will be notified by email as to whether or not their abstract has been accepted by the WONOEP Committee by early April 2023; all correspondence will be sent to the submitting author only.
