World Epilepsy Community

Through its national chapters and regional organizations, meetings, and congresses, the ILAE helps epilepsy professionals worldwide to communicate, disseminate knowledge about epilepsy, promote research and training, and improve services and care for patients.

National Organizations and Chapters

The ILAE is a federation of 118 national epilepsy organizations (chapters) representing a vast majority of the world’s population.

Regions

The ILAE is organized into six regions, which deal with issues specific to each region and organize regional congresses. The chair of each regional board is elected by the chapters belonging to that region.

Congresses

The ILAE organizes one international congress every two years, in collaboration with the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE). Regional congresses also take place every two years, usually in alternation with the international congress. ILAE sponsors congresses and courses organized by some of its specialized commissions and by other organizations.
